Health class for me as a teen made it seem like getting pregnant would be super easy. However, in my adulthood, like many other women, I soon discovered that getting pregnant was anything but easy.
Once I got my PCOS diagnosis, I began researching and trying to learn everything that I could. I was actually surprised by how much knowledge about my own body I was actually lacking. I think any woman who has been on her own TTC journey would agree.
That all being said, I am utterly shocked to see current politicians of today not even knowing what hole we pee out of and yet they still feel ever so emboldened to make health choices for us. My body, my choice.
-End Rant ;)
We already know women who are actively trying to conceive may face a myriad of challenges in their journey towards parenthood. Among these challenges, the lack of abortion access and restricted reproductive rights in the new Post Roe era pose significant obstacles. In this article, we will explore the various difficulties women may encounter, including the risks of ectopic pregnancy and other reasons why abortion may be necessary. Additionally, we will discuss how the erosion of reproductive rights can have far-reaching consequences, such as the potential outlaw or restriction of in vitro fertilization (IVF). It is crucial for individuals to recognize the importance of voting for politicians who support a woman's right to choose, ensuring access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare.
Lack of Abortion Access:
Women who are actively trying to conceive may face situations where they need to consider abortion due to medical complications. However, restrictive laws and limited access to abortion services can leave them with few options. These barriers can lead to increased emotional and financial burdens, as well as potential health risks. No one should have to travel out of state to receive life saving treatment.
What Are Ectopic Pregnancies?
One notable risk that women actively trying to conceive face is ectopic pregnancy. This condition occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, typically in the fallopian tubes. Ectopic pregnancies are not viable. Ectopic pregnancies are life-threatening and require immediate medical intervention, including abortion in most cases. Limited access to safe and legal abortion services can delay timely treatment, putting the woman's health and future fertility at risk.
The lack of abortion access can significantly impact the timely treatment of ectopic pregnancies. As the pregnancy progresses, the risk of complications, such as rupture of the fallopian tube, increases. If left untreated, a ruptured ectopic pregnancy can cause severe internal bleeding and require emergency surgery or even result in death.
Moreover, the lack of abortion access can also lead to emotional and psychological distress for women facing an ectopic pregnancy. The uncertainty and anxiety caused by the inability to access necessary medical care can compound an already difficult situation.
It is crucial to ensure that women have access to safe and legal abortion services, including in cases of ectopic pregnancies. Timely diagnosis and treatment are essential to protect the health and well-being of women facing these potentially life-threatening conditions. By removing barriers to abortion access, we can help ensure that women receive the necessary care they need without unnecessary delays or risks to their health.
FYI Other Reasons for Abortion:
Aside from ectopic pregnancies, there are various other reasons why a woman actively trying to conceive may need an abortion. These may include miscarriages with complications, serious fetal abnormalities that are not compatible with life or maternal health complications. It is crucial to acknowledge that these decisions are deeply personal and should be made in consultation with healthcare professionals, free from external restrictions or opinions.
Reproductive Rights, Contraceptives and IVF:
The stripping of reproductive rights extends beyond abortion access. It can also have far-reaching consequences for contraceptives and assisted reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF has been a crucial option for many couples struggling with infertility. However, the erosion of reproductive rights can lead to the outlaw or restriction of IVF procedures, further limiting already limited options for those trying to conceive. Limiting access to contraceptives and outlawing IVF makes no sense for our society unless your ultimate goal is to increase the rate of teen pregnancies. Ask yourself why the GOP wants more pregnant teens.
The Importance of Voting for Pro-Choice Politicians:
Women who are actively trying to conceive face unique challenges and additional health risks post Roe in their journey towards parenthood. The lack of abortion access and restrictions on reproductive rights can exacerbate these challenges, putting women's health and well-being at risk. It is crucial for society to recognize the importance of supporting a woman's right to choose and to advocate for the removal of barriers that hinder access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare. By voting for politicians who prioritize reproductive rights, we can help create a society that values and supports women's reproductive autonomy.
Note to readers: I purposely didn’t not include statistics on rates of ectopic pregnancy or miscarriages with complications because if you still need convincing, I want you to do your own research. I suggest checking out CDC.gov for the stats. And while you are doing that I want you to ask yourself how many pregnant women dying preventable deaths are acceptable for you. Where do you draw the line? How many lives are you willing to sacrifice?
